Spring Training 2006

When I received my Master's Degree from Wheaton College, my Dad promised to take me to Vero Beach to see the Dodger's Spring Training... this past March, he came through! We spent three days watching baseball in the Florida sunshine. It was heaven.

One of the reasons I loved going to spring training was watching how the "rookies" interacted with the veterans. Their excitement was contagious...they were on the verge of making their life long dream of "playing in the big leagues" come true. Here are three rookies... hence the really high numbers, waiting to see if today is their day.

My dad, Ron and me. He has taught me everything I know about baseball. I couldn't have been at Spring Training with a better person... Being a Dodger fan is so much more than just rooting for a certain team, its about our connection and the hundreds of memories we have shared through years because of Dodger baseball.

Throughout Dodgertown they have street's named after many of their great players. The story of Roy Campanella is pretty inspirational, but that's not why I love this picture. I love the fact that in the foreground, there is my Dad in his coaching stance. What you can't see is that there are first year players running drills and he was content just to stand and watch.
